Bodies: Catch Me If You Can

Costume seen on Synnøve Karlsen as Polly Hillinghead

About the Costume

This dressing gown, adorned with flowers was first spotted on Jenna Coleman as Lydia Bennet in the 2013 mini-series Death Comes to Pemberley. Because the series reused most of their costumes, especially those won by Jenna Coleman, it’s likely that this dressing gown originates with an earlier production.

The dressing gown was seen again in the 2023 episode of Bodies, entitled Catch Me If You Can, where it appeared on Synnøve Karlsen as Polly Hillinghead.

This is an interesting costume reuse, as it shows the difference that lighting can make in identifying a piece. It’s clear the silhouette of this costume appears to be the same, but the darkness makes it hard to 100% confirm they are. It is in such instances, we look closely at other identifiers. In this case, we try to find identical pieces of embroidery. You’ll see in the gallery at left an example of this, with matching embroidery circled.

  1. Wouldn’t it be Lydia Wickham by then? Anyway, cool find. I’ve always had this house coat on my list because the fit on Coleman is somewhat odd and I wouldn’t be surprised for it to be found in an earlier production set somewhere in the 1880s or there about.

    • Yeah, it would be. I should fix that, thanks!
Yeah, I honestly suspected The Duchess for whatever reason (quality, maybe?) even though it’s not quite the right era – it had a lot of dressing gowns that kind of looked a bit like this. But I think you’re right, I think it’s probably a Victorian production somewhere.
