This dress was worn for the first time by Emma Thompson as Elinor Dashwood in the 1995 movie Sense and Sensibility. It was later spotted being worn by an extra in the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. The 2008 version of Sense and Sensibility reused the gown for the character of Lucy Steele, portrayed by Anna Madeley. Finally, the dress was found in the 2011 Wuthering Heights, where Nichola Burley wore it as Isabella Linton.
