This waistcoat was spotted for the first time in the 1994 production of Middlemarch, worn by Robert Hardy in the role of Arthur Brooke. Tim Wylton then reused it as Mr. Gardiner in the 1995 production of Pride and Prejudice. In 2001 it was worn by Jonathan Coy as Charles Cheeryble in The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby. In 2006 the costume was worn by Javier Bardem as Lorenzo in Goya’s Ghosts, and finally, in 2008 it was worn in Lost in Austen by Elliot Cowan as Mr. Darcy.
